Where is Anwatin Woods?

Anwatin Woods is in the Minneapolis neighborhood of Bryn Mawr. It lies between Upton and Xerxes Avenues, south of Chestnut, abutting Theodore Wirth Park and Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden, and Bryn Mawr Elementary School. It is comprised of several parcels of land, all of which are vacant and wooded.

For the purpose of describing the area more accurately, the parcels have been grouped into three units: Xerxes, Washburn and Vincent. Each unit refers to the area south of the respective street. Characteristics of each unit follow: Unit #1: Xerxes Block 003, Inglewood Addition, six parcels, lots 13-18 on west side of Xerxes Avenue South. Bounded on north by existing residence, on south by Minneapolis School District property, on east by residences, and on west by Theodore Wirth Park. Unit #2: Washburn Block 002, Inglewood Addition, two parcels, lots 17 and 18 on east side of Washburn Avenue South. Bounded on north side by existing residences, on south by undeveloped, privately-owned land, on east by residences and on west by street, Washburn Av. S. FBPW plans to sell these lots and use the proceeds to defray our acquisition cost of the total package. Unit #3: Vincent Block 001, Inglewood Addition, nine parcels, lots 13-18, plus half of lot 19 on east side of Vincent and Block 002, lots 11-12 on west side of Vincent. Bounded on north by existing residence, on south by Minneapolis School District property, on east by existing residences and on west by vacant, privately-owned land, with the exception of two parcels on the west side of Vincent. In addition: Unit #4: VINCENT Two lots owned by a neighbor have been pledged to FBPW. Unit #5,6,7: CITY RIGHT OF WAY FBPW will petition the City of Minneapolis to donate the land currently designated as future streets for Vincent Avenue, Washburn Avenue and Xerxes Avenue.
