Why is Anwatin Woods a good place for an Environmental Learning Center?

The proximity of Anwatin Woods to the existing schools allows for quick field trips for the students there. It also provides ready-made infrastructure (parking lots, etc.) for field trips from other Minneapolis schools. It is centrally located, allowing short rides from north, south, east or west.

The diversity of habitat within a small area is a key feature of Anwatin Woods. In one possible scenario, the Environmental Learning Center would allow access to restored prairie, a woodland pond, an oak savannah and a marsh/wetland. Such a variety in a small, easily-accessible area is a rare find indeed.

In addition, Anwatin Woods borders Theodore Wirth Park, and is a short walk away from the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary, offering a truly stunning variety of natural resources for study and enjoyment.
